An affiliate program is understood to mean so-called partner options or partner programs that bring the advertiser (merchant) and the affiliate (publisher or advertising platform) together. The program offers the possibility for a merchant or several merchants who are looking for suitable affiliates to advertise their own services, websites, or products.
Provisioning
The affiliate receives a commission from the advertiser, which is shown in the program. The remuneration can relate to a specific period for which the advertisement or advertisements are placed online or to the amount of generated impressions. Here, the commissioning usually takes place in the thousands - the sum X is paid for every 1,000 impressions.
Of course, the 'usual suspects' are also included in the commission system, which is negotiable: payment for clicks, payment for contacts or leads, and payments for incoming orders or sales.
Discoverability
Affiliate programs can often be controlled on the advertiser's website itself, as some marketing departments have already set fixed parameters on the provider side. Affiliate networks also offer the corresponding affiliate program as an interface between advertiser and affiliate.
